Of course, the decision to sign up for military service is not one that you'll want to take lightly, so it's definitely something that you will want to think very carefully about. However, there are a lot of advantages of serving in the military, even if you're only planning on doing it for a few years rather than making a career out of it. These are some of the perks that you might be able to enjoy.

1. It Can Help You Support Yourself

Many people find that it's hard to support themselves when they first graduate from high school. Finding a decent job and paying for living expenses, healthcare and everything else can be a big burden for someone who is just starting out in the world. Even though you probably aren't going to be able to make it rich by joining the military, it can help provide you with housing, healthcare and a decent income so that you can support yourself.

2. You Can Serve Your Country

Many people take a lot of pride in the idea of serving and protecting their country. If you're a patriotic person, you might find that joining the military is worth it for this reason alone.

You will learn a lot of new things while serving in the military through your military training. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy a lot of new experiences, such as traveling all over the country and the world. Many people who go to college find that it's very hard for them to pay their tuition. They might struggle to get by while in school, or they might have to take out big student loans to help them cover their educational expenses. If you join the military, though, you can actually make college much easier to afford. There are various federal grant programs, scholarships and loans out there that are just for students who are serving or who have served in the military, which is a great perk to joining the armed forces.
